Isa Wah, the first of many "white boy" Reggae bands, Placerville, CA, 1982: L to R - Lee Richter, John Witlock, Craig Zangari, Mike Jones, Buddy Tokes, Craig Vreekin, Bob Baszt, Bill Snyder, Loren Miller. I worked with them on occasion, running lights, lifting amps, and (most importantly) smoking spliffs ...

The 'mighty' Vision, 1986, shortly before it became DV8; L to R - Parbar Martin Weber, Alton Thomas, MH, Norman Turner, Ernesto Browne, Gary Nelson. This was (in my humble opinion) the most slammin'version of this group ... oh well, on to the next!

MUSIC SCHOOL-1986: With Rolf Carl. The 'band' called itself Time Square Reunion'. Never played many gigs, but man did we play some cool shit! I remember practicing all night until the morning, and then sometimes into the next day. Burn both ends of a candle? Get another candle.

Pointing at the man who I hold personably accountable for helping me out of my theoretically ignorant state. Thank you Rolf! I'll never forget his 'wheel' for deciphering the circle of fifths & fourths. Later on someone else came up with the same thing and made some real bank on it. Damn!

Our Drummer in TSR was Charles Steinloft. Charlie was definitely one of the best musicians I ever knew. I guess you bet it's pretty much a blessing when you grow up in Woodstock, NY, and you take music lessons from your neighbor, Jack Dejonette (Rolf, also Woodstock native studied with Mike Manarii). I have to say it was a blessing for me to have played with cats like Charlie and Rolf.

Charlie passed away awhile back ( june 2oo6). I'm sorry I didn't keep in touch with him more often over the last few years. I didn't even know of his illness until a day or two before he died when I received an email from his wife, Helen. RIP CS!
Rolf moved back to Woodstock quite a few years back and had made appearences in recent times with George Clinton's 420 Funk Mob. |

Somewhere in the woods of eastern PA: JGB, the 1999 version. Bob Coons, MH, Gail Muldrow, Peter Boris, and Matt our engineer and road manager.

At the beginning of the very long winter to spring 1995 tour, featuring legendary Blues-Soul Singer, Frankie Lee with band, Mart, John Baker, Alan Vegas, and (who else?) Peter Philis.

With Buddy Tokes and Krakatoa at the now defunct Court-Yard in Old Sacramento, about 1992 (I think) . BT, originally from Isa Wah, had a quite a few versions of this band, though I think this is the one that received a Sammie in the catagory of "Best World Beat band". Buddy's latest project, Dog Byte, can be seen at a variety of venues in and around the Sacramento area.
|

Speaking of Sammies, the Superfreaks are up for one this year (2006) in the Blues catagory. Dynamo Singer Stacie Eakes has showcased about a dozen versions of the SF's over the years . This one, from 2002, featured Drummer Bruce Spencer (currently touring with Jackie Greene), as well as Guitarists Jeff Lucas and Ron Hull .

Monsters of Rock, !980 at the Shanghai Bar, Auburn, CA with Peter Wilson & Patti Jo King. That guitar was heavier than hell (note the 'kidney' brace) ! One of the many 'Shanghai nights' back in the day: everyone got wasted, and (almost) everyone got laid ...
|

At the closing week of the Shanghai Bar, June 2005 . The day that the Shanghai Bar & Restaurant closed Auburn lost it's funky heart and soul. This forever resigned it to the mundane status of your typically over gentrified tourist 'shopping mall' town.
